MSCA DAY ON THE HILL!!

Day on the Hill is fast approaching us. It will be held on Thursday, February 11th. The agenda for the day is listed below. We hope many of you choose to attend the event this year.

We are building momentum with the MN 2020 report and the opportunity to present to the K-12 Education and Higher Education committee on February 3rd. Here are some potential items we will work on this session:

1) Create a bill that states all students in Minnesota must build a K-12 Career plan that is supported by licensed school counselors.
2) Advocate for the Safe Schools Levy bill that allocates $3 per student for an additional support staff member.
3) Work with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education to reestablish the $2.5 million dollar School Counselor grant. All of this money would directly fund new school counselor positions.
4) Support bills as they arise in areas including K-12 Education, Bully Prevention, Undocumented Students and Safe Schools.

We hope to see you on February 11th.

Agenda:
8:00 - 8:30am           - Registration and Food
8:30 - 10:00am         - Meeting (Talking Points, Handouts, Legislative Speakers)
10:00am – 2:00pm    - Meet with Legislators and Lunch
2:00 – 3:00 pm         - Wrap-up Meeting (Review the Day, Legislative Speakers, Evaluation, Next Steps)

APPOINTMENTS

Contact your legislators to make an appointment for Day on the Hill 2009. If your legislator is unavailable at that time, ask to make the appointment with their assistant. Appointments should run 15 - 30 minutes. Make your appointments between the following hours 10:45 - 1:15.

If that time does not work on Thursday - take any time they give you - it is of the utmost importance that you connect w/ your legislator face to face!

The Government Relations Chair for your division will be sharing more information as it becomes accessible.
